Soldiers Returning from War G. Maroitz, 19th century Often frames are painted with gold paint to disguise damage. The paint eventually turns a ghastly color.		After cleaning the painting, frame repair, stripping the gold paint, gilding and applying a realistic patina to create a feeling of antiquity.

After cutting away the paper not stuck to the paint, we could locally dissolve the varnish with mild solvents and gently remove the packing paper. Varnish was reapplied to the afflicted areas.		Framed and ready for installation. Stephen was poised to keep Spanky, the family dog, from becoming too inquisitive.
