Chris Kenney is the Director and Principal Art Conservator working in private practice in central California for over two decades. His academic training includes graduate studies in historic resources management, conservation science, museology, photography, and exhibit design which began in 1978 while serving as the Archivist at the California Museum of Photography at the University of California, Riverside. His apprenticeship in paintings conservation was conducted at the private studio/lab of Art Conservation, Inc. in Westport, Connecticut. Chris was also a partner in a successful art gallery, conservation, and conservation framing business in Santa Cruz, California, before establishing his private practice.
His continued studies in conservation and preservation technology include courses and workshops at UCLA, UC Santa Cruz, the Rochester Institute of Technology, LA County Museum of Art, the J. P. Getty Museum of Art, and mid-career development through professional conservation associations. Like most professionals, he is dedicated to continuing education and independent research. Some favorites include the use of laser technology in art conservation at LACMA, alternative tear repair methods and varnishing techniques at the J. P. Getty Museum, Los Angeles, California.
